Wired offers an interesting perspective on Why Google+ Pages (Will) Beat Facebook, and Twitter.

+ Pages are where businesses interact with web denizens on the cutting edge of net technology, and Facebook is where you interact with everyone else. Facebook boasts 800 million users, while claims 40 million. ’s limited audience isn’t necessarily a bad thing. For now, Plus streams generally contain “non-frivolous” information. A company’s message isn’t lost amid a sea of random pictures and cat videos. Of course, this may change. But more importantly, integrates Plus into its web-dominating search engine . . . This is where will have an advantage over Facebook: With a broad array of services like search and Gmail and Chrome and Android, offers tools that are fundamental to the online lives of so many people — and these can be tied to +. As + evolves, will have the means to promote its social network — and the branded Pages within it — in ways that Facebook or Twitter cannot.

    Facebook has been so popular for so long now that a competitor might come into the market and steal away the audience. I don’t ever hear people talking about Google+, it was cool when it was exclusive a few months ago– but it’s not that cool anymore. The only cool thing about it is the 3-way video chat feature, in my opinion, and even that is not something that I would convert to Googlism for because I can just use the feature at my leisure. Facebook is just so much more easy to use.

    I don’t know if I can necessarily agree with the phrase “Google+ beat Facebook.” I am a big fan of the new networking website, but there are many drawbacks. In order for a social networking site to succeed, the most important factors are amount of users and user activity. To me, it’s impressive that Google+ even has 40 million. They had a smart marketing tactic at first to make it seem very secretive and new. But, the fact is that not a lot of people use Google+, especially when compared Facebook. There is a lot of potential for growth with interesting features that were mentioned in the article. But I believe as long as Facebook doesn’t sell their soul, similar to MySpace, they can be a long term success. Time will tell if Google+ can grow to the most popular social network, but it may never happen.
