I am–
walking inside with one crutch most of the time
pain-free unless I do something I’m not supposed to do, which I’ve not done for many days. The muscles around the incision are weak and stiff, but don’t truly hurt. I remain amazed by the lack of pain despite the invasive nature of the surgery.
doing rudimentary [...]
To current and future readers, students past, present, and yet-to-be, to friends and family, I wish a happy new year. 2009 has to be better than 2008. Right?

Early today I was updating course materials on http://trudalane.net/resources when the site started throwing error messages at me. Every text edit produced an annoying new error message. It was a perfect day to pursue the source. I’m housebound anyway and a snow storm was dumping an inch an hour over New England–I [...]

Taking stock nine days post-op:
I had 3.5 hours interrupted sleep last night, from 4:00 AM to 7:30 AM, the longest sleep in ages. I felt so much better than yesterday when I was out of bed at 4:30 AM after five hours of catnaps.

I must apologize to my regular readers for not posting in 20 days. (Hey loyal readers, great time at the annual Foolish Consistency Solstice Party! Next time I’ll drag in a few more bodies so we can play four-person Scrabble!) I have my usual reasons for light posting activity–papers to read, projects to grade, exams [...]

I’ve lived in and around Boston for a long time but, until Friday, I had never seen Halloween on the Hill. On October Beacon Hill is transformed by spooky lighting, cobwebs, Jack-O-Lanterns glowing in Louisburg Square, and dummies hanging from lampposts into a giant haunted walk. Thousands of folks in costumes go from house to [...]

A Foolish Consistency’s first post–about net neutrality–appeared on September 8, 2006. This post, two years later, is the 402nd I’ve published on A Foolish Consistency, slightly more than one post every other day. Not prolific output but not bad either, given the number of blogs that come and go and the ease with which I [...]
